Remnants of the ramparts: inscription by decree of 12 November 1926
Origin and history
The former castle of the Crest, located in Puy-de-Dôme in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, dates from the 14th century. This monument, now partially preserved in the form of remains of ramparts, illustrates the defensive architecture typical of this period in Auvergne. The remains still visible were inscribed in the Historic Monuments by order of 12 November 1926, highlighting their heritage value.
The location of the castle, in the heart of the municipality of Crest (code Insee 63126), corresponds to a strategic area of the Middle Ages. At that time, the castles served as military and administrative checkpoints, while often sheltering a garrison and reserves for local populations. Their construction reflected political tensions and protection needs in a region marked by feudal conflicts and growing trade.
Available data indicate that the site is now owned by the municipality. Although its current condition and conditions of access (visits, services) are not detailed in the sources, its listing as Historic Monuments guarantees official recognition. The accuracy of its geographical location is estimated as "passable" (note 5/10), with an approximate address at 6 Rue du Château.
No information is provided on any historical figures related to this castle or on any significant events taking place there. Sources are limited to architectural and administrative descriptions, without anecdote or additional contextual detail.
