Origin and history

Château de la Grangerie, located in Lannes (Lot-et-Garonne), has its origin in the 13th century as an abbey of Prémontrés. This religious monument, partially preserved, bears witness to medieval monastic architecture. The chapel, today devoid of its original vaults, has a porch in the middle of a hanger decorated with four arches resting on columns carved of d-acanthe leaves. Two towers frame this porch: one in the shape of a diamond, supported by tubes, the other in corbellation, reinforced by a foothill. These elements reflect the influence of religious orders in the monumental construction of the era.

The transformation of the site into a seigneurial house is observed through later additions. The main house, of barlong shape, is flanked by two square pavilions with pyramid roofs, typical of the aristocratic residences of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The porch of the house and that of the courtyard date explicitly from the 17th century, while the part of the building attenant to the chapel seems to go back to the 16th century. These developments illustrate the shift from religious use to a residential vocation, common after the secularization of ecclesiastical goods.

The Château de la Grangerie has been partially protected since 1952, with an inscription under the title of Historical Monuments for the facades and covers of the old chapel (cadastral reference B 199). This recognition underscores the heritage value of the site, despite structural alterations such as the disappearance of the vaults. The exact address, 5085 Lagrangerie in Lannes (47170), confirms its anchoring in the rural landscape of Lot-et-Garonne, in New Aquitaine. The accuracy of its location is estimated at 6/10, indicating a satisfactory but perfectable approximation.
