Origin and history
The Château du Travet is a building from the first quarter of the seventeenth century located in the municipality of Labastide-Saint-Georges, in the department of Tarn (Occitanie region). This monument, partially listed as a historical monument since 1952, is distinguished by its dovecote, an emblematic element of the estate. Originally, he served as a summer residence for the bishops of Castres, thus reflecting the religious and social importance of the region at that time.
The dovecote, protected by decree of 24 January 1952, has a remarkable architecture: its ground floor rests on pillars, with a central turret housing a staircase leading up to the floor. The ceiling of this lower level is vaulted and adorned with veins, characteristic of the constructions of this period. This type of building illustrates the economic and symbolic role of pigeons in seigneurial or ecclesiastical domains, often associated with feudal privileges.
Although available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) do not provide comprehensive details of the castle's history, its inscription as historical monuments underscores its heritage value. The site is located precisely at 5007 Le Travet, in an area whose geographical accuracy is estimated to be fair (level 5/10). No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, rentals, accommodation).
