Origin and history
The Château d'Oigny-en-Valois is a mansion built between 1498 and 1515 in the Louis XII style, at the location of an ancient medieval castle destroyed in 1358 by the Jacques. Located in Oigny-en-Valois, near Villers-Cotterêts in Aisne, it combines brick and stone, characteristic of early 16th century architecture. Two polygonal towers, vestiges of its defensive system, as well as Renaissance decorative elements, were preserved despite reshuffles in the 19th century.
The castle has been listed as a historic monument since 8 February 1928 for its house corps, entrance pavilion and towers. Its commons, although transformed in the 19th century, complete a homogeneous set including two dovecotes, a barn, stables and a farm dating partly from the 17th century. The changes of the 19th century mainly affected the bays and interior decor, while agricultural outbuildings (hangar, shed, stake) were added, some bearing the date of 1857.
The estate also includes a pleasant garden with pool, greenhouse and vegetable garden, registered in the pre-inventory of remarkable gardens. The farm buildings, modernized in the 20th century, testify to the evolution of agricultural uses around the castle. The ensemble offers a rare example of 16th century nobiliary architecture in the region, mixing medieval heritage and Renaissance influences.
The site is protected by two registration stops: the first in 1928 for the main elements, the second in 1990 for the communes. Its exact address, 2 Rue du Puits in Oigny-en-Valois, is referenced in the Mérimée database under the code Insee 02568. The accuracy of its geographical location is estimated at 6/10, based on available sources.
