Origin and history

Cors Castle was founded in 1066 when it donated to Preuilly Abbey. The current building preserves traces of a medieval fortified castle, including two towers and a vaulted central circular body, flanking an old house. The main tower, a former 15th century dungeon, still houses a square piece of wood and a round road on mâchicoulis. These elements, along with three 15th century chimneys in the dungeon rooms, suggest an initial construction at this time, perhaps on older foundations.

In the 17th century, the castle underwent major changes, as evidenced by changes to the old house and towers. The large house body, entirely redone in the 19th century (with the exception of the basements), illustrates an evolution towards a less defensive home. A small turret ends the whole, while the facades and roofs of the old fortified castle, including the dungeon and central body, are classified as Historic Monument in 1959.

The sources mention a geographical confusion: although often associated with Angles (Tarn, Occitanie), the Cors castle is located in Oulches (Indre, Centre-Val de Loire), as attests the Merimée base. Its history thus blends medieval traces, modern transformations, and recent heritage protection. The outbuildings (bergery, guardhouse) and a giant douglas complete the estate, now partly restored.
