Origin and history

The Château des Robinières, located in Scorbé-Clairvaux in the department of Vienna, was built from 1524 on the impulse of Hugues Lucas, first known owner. This fief then depended on the barony of Clairvaux, and its construction was located near the château du Haut-Clairvaux. The initial work marked the beginning of a history linked to local seigneurial tensions.

At the beginning of the 17th century, the castle became the subject of a dispute between François Lucas, heir to the estate, and Charlotte-Catherine de Villequier, Countess of Clairvaux and widow of Jacques d'Aumont. In particular, she challenged the fortifications added by Lucas, which she considered threatening for her own castle. The conflict settled in 1626, when César d'Aumont, Marquis de Clairvaux and son of Charlotte-Catherine, authorized François Lucas to complete the construction of the Robinières, provided that no fortification could harm the Château de Clairvaux.

Some architectural elements of the castle, including facades, roofs, moats and leaks, were listed as historical monuments on 27 June 1984. This ranking reflects the heritage value of a building whose history reflects the power dynamics and defensive stakes of the modern period in Poitou.
