Origin and history

The Château des Sacrots is a 17th-century house located in the commune of Agonges, in the department of l'Allier, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The building consists of a central body framed by two square towers with lanterns, with bays decorated with vermiculated bosses. Together, including outbuildings, fits into a enclosure enclosed by a monumental gate with two entrance pavilions.

The castle, with its interior decorations, outbuildings, garden and fence, was listed as historical monuments in 2001. Although its detailed history is not explicitly documented in the available sources, its architecture reflects the characteristics of the Bourbon aristocratic residences of that time. The site is referenced in specialized works such as Châteaux, fiefs, mots, fortified houses and manor houses in Bourbonnais (2004).

The Allier region, historically marked by Bourbonnais, had many seigneuries and fortified houses. These buildings served both as residences for local elites and as symbols of power in rural areas. The Château des Sacrots is part of this architectural heritage, reflecting the influence of noble families on the social and economic organization of the region in the 17th and 18th centuries.
