Origin and history

The Château de la Salle, located in Vieure in the department of Allier (region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), is a building whose origins date back to the 14th century. It has a medieval structure marked by a rectangular dungeon and round towers of corners, characteristic of the defensive architecture of this period. This castle has been profoundly transformed over the centuries, especially during a work campaign around 1875.

Around 1875, probably under the direction of architect Moreau, the castle underwent major changes. The wings in return were redesigned with new holes and roofs, while an additional wing, flanked by a square tower of neo-Gothic style and neo-Louis XIII, was built to connect the existing parts. The vast commons, dating from the 18th century, were preserved, bearing witness to the successive architectural evolutions of the estate.

The Château de la Salle has been listed as historic monuments since 18 November 2002. This protection covers not only the main building, but also its park with its fences and gates, its communes, pavilions, and decorated interiors (chapels, stairs, kitchen, latrines, large living room and bedrooms). This collection thus illustrates centuries of architectural and social history, from the Middle Ages to the late 19th century.
