Origin and history

The Château de Montgeroult, classified as a Historic Monument, is located in the regional nature park of the French Vexin. Its construction dates back to the first half of the 17th century, as evidenced by a quotation dated 1640. This castle illustrates the aristocratic residential architecture of this period, with a central home and subsequent developments.

At the beginning of the 18th century, the estate underwent major changes: a wing in return was added to the northern end of the house, while commons were built between 1704 and 1707. These extensions reflect the changing space and comfort needs of the owners of the time. In 1723, two tanks were built, one under the court of honor and the other under the orchard, thus improving the water autonomy of the estate.

Around 1850, a haras was installed in the field, marking a diversification of its functions. This change takes place in the context of the 19th century, where aristocratic or bourgeois properties often incorporate agricultural or livestock activities. The castle and its outbuildings, including the enclosure walls, are protected by a classification order in 1996, recognizing their heritage value.
