The old chapel (excluding the classified bell tower); the facades and roofs of former convent buildings (excluding classified building bodies) (Case AR 217): inscription by order of 19 June 1981 - The bell tower of the chapel; the building body containing the former choir of the nuns, including the murals of the vault (Box AR 217): classification by decree of 19 June 1981

Origin and history

The Benedictine Convent of Dinan, located at 12 rue de Lehon, is a religious monument built between the 17th and 18th centuries. This site, now partially protected, bears witness to the Breton Conventual architecture of that time. The buildings, including the former chapel and the facades of the convent buildings, were listed or classified as Historic Monuments by order of 19 June 1981.

The chapel of the convent, with the exception of its separately classified bell tower, as well as the facades and roofs of the convent buildings, are among the protected elements. The bell tower and the building body housing the former choir of nuns, including murals on the vault, were specifically classified. These protections illustrate the heritage importance of the site, although its exact location is considered poor (accuracy note: 5/10).

The convent is now owned by the Côtes-d-Armor department, located in Brittany. Although the sources do not specify its current use (visits, rentals, accommodation), its status as a Historical Monument makes it a place of interest for the study of the religious and architectural history of Dinan. Available data are mainly from the Merimée database and Monumentum, without reference to specific events or historical characters related to the site.
