Origin and history
Chantemesle Castle, located in Logron en Eure-et-Loir, is a building whose origins date back to the 15th century, with major transformations in the 18th century. Prior to 1828, it consisted of a main body, two wings in return and four towers, all surrounded by moat traversed by a drawbridge. Since 1750, its external appearance has not undergone any major changes, thus preserving its historical character.
The west façade, of Renaissance style, is distinguished by its bossed pilasters and decorated capitals, while the east facade was completely remodelled in the 18th century. Inside, painted chimneys and commons, dating back to the same period, bear witness to this period. The communes, organized around a ground floor framed by two pavilions, are accompanied by a pigeon-house and a enclosed vegetable garden housing an orangery at its end.
Ranked a Historic Monument since December 5, 1984, the castle protects its facades, roofs, moats, as well as elements such as the pillars of the entrance of the communes. Its architecture thus blends medieval heritage and beautifications of the Enlightenment, reflecting stylistic and functional evolutions over three centuries.
The location of the site, although specified in the Merimée bases (Insee code 28211 for Eure-et-Loir), does not benefit from accurate GPS geolocation in the available sources. Practical information on access (visits, rentals, accommodation) is not detailed in the documents consulted.
