Origin and history
The Château d'Arc is an 18th century building located in the commune of Arc-et-Senans, in the Doubs department, in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Built in 1751 by Monsieur Chaudois, it embodies the civil architecture of this period, with decorative and structural elements typical of the period, such as a wrought iron staircase and decorated chimneys.
Since 9 November 1984, parts of the castle have been protected as historical monuments. The facades, roofs, as well as interior rooms (such as the north-east lounge and rooms with their decor) were inscribed by decree. These protections highlight the heritage value of the building, both for its architecture and its interior elements.
The Castle of Arc is part of the historical landscape of the Doubs, an area marked by a strong presence of castles and monuments linked to the history of Franche-Comté. Although information on its original use or occupants is scarce, its preservation reflects the importance attached to the local architectural heritage.
