Hippolyte Delbosc (1829-1889) - Physician and General Counsel
Sponsor of the castle in 1863
Origin and history
The castle of the Algayrie, also known as the Ténèze Castle, is a neo-classical building erected in the 19th century in Teillet, Tarn. It succeeds a first castle whose date of construction remains unknown, but whose existence is attested from the seventeenth century. This estate then belonged to the Foulcher family, sieurs del Bosc, local notables, before passing to their descendants, the Delbosc.
In 1863 Hippolyte Delbosc, a doctor in Albi and general councillor of the canton of Alban, ordered the demolition of the old building to build the present castle. The latter has a marked neo-classical style, with a symmetrical seven-span facade, a triangular pediment and a wrought iron balcony. Originally, the roof was decorated with a balustrade, removed in the 20th century when tiles were replaced by slates.
The architecture of the castle is distinguished by its two-storey rectangular house body. The main façade, divided into three parts, highlights the central spans with openings in the middle and a pediment. The rear façade, although similar, is without it. This monument illustrates the influence of neo-classicism in 19th-century Occitania, as well as the evolution of architectural techniques and tastes of the period.
