Origin and history
The monument of the Brisée Cross is a tribute to the soldiers of the First World War, located in Nouvron-Vingré, in the department of Aisne. Built in 1929 by the Marquis de Croix, owner of the site, it marks the location of the German trenches abandoned in 1917. This memorial site embodies the suffering endured by the combatants on the Confrécourt plateau, an area marked by the violent clashes of 14-18.
The monument, inscribed in historical monuments since 28 June 1990, consists of a cross and a pillar, located on cadastre B 264. Its precise location, 3 Rue de la Croix Brisée, is today a place of memory accessible to the public. The location, noted as "very satisfactory" (level 8/10), allows visitors to gather on this site full of history, in a department deeply marked by the scars of the Great War.
The Hauts-de-France region, and more particularly the Aisne region, preserved many accounts of the fighting of 1914-1918. These monuments, like that of the Brisée Cross, play a key role in preserving collective memory. They recall the sacrifice of soldiers, while providing educational support for future generations. Their designation as historic monuments underscores their heritage importance and symbolic value to local communities.
