Origin and history
The château des Horts is a castle whose origins date back to the 14th century. Located on the town of Thiers, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, it is part of a set of secondary residences built in the sixteenth century by local notables. Its architecture is distinguished by a square structure, organised around a courtyard today covered with a glass roof, and flanked by four circular corner towers.
The north façade of the castle is marked by a crenelage and a scauguette, typical elements of medieval fortifications. Although modest by its size, this castle illustrates the influence of the Thurese elites in the Renaissance, who built houses reflecting their social status. The site thus embodies a transition between the defensive architecture of the Middle Ages and the prestigious residences of the modern era.
No additional information is available on historic owners, major events or major changes to the castle. The current sources are limited to its architectural description and construction context, without details of its past use or specific occupants.
