Origin and history

Rocquencourt Castle, located in the commune of Chesnay-Rocquencourt (Yvelines), was built in 1781 by architect Charles de Wailly for the Countess of Provence. The French Revolution interrupted the work, later taken over by Daniel Doumerc-Belan. This 18th century castle, marked by successive transformations, became an emblematic place before its destruction in 1963.

In 1824, the estate was acquired by the Duchess of Corigliano, the niece of Joachim Murat, and bought in 1829 by the banker Beer Léon Fould. His granddaughter, Cécile Furtado-Heine, had the park built there. The castle even hosted the American Olympic team in 1924, before being severely damaged during the Second World War.

Ranked a historic monument in 1946 for its park and entrance gate (with the initials CFH), the castle was finally demolished in 1963. Today, only these elements remain, reflecting its prestigious past and the historical transformations of the region.
