Origin and history
Beaumont Castle is an emblematic building located in the commune of Guitté, in the Côtes-d'Armor department, Brittany. It is distinguished by its picturesque location on the banks of the Rance, a coastal river that has long played a central role in the region's trade and economic life. The monument is particularly remarkable for its architecture, including a polygonal staircase tower whose upper part is surmounted by a household oratory with strong corbellation, a rare and characteristic element of the seigneurial buildings of the era.
Beaumont Castle was listed as historic monuments by an order dated June 19, 1926, recognizing its heritage value. Among the protected elements are the entrance door framed by two towers, a small door dating from the 15th century, as well as the corbellation present on the facade. These architectural details testify to the historical importance of the site, although the available archives do not specify the exact circumstances of its construction or the characters that marked its history.
The Brittany region, and more particularly the Côtes-d'Armor, has numerous castles and manor houses, reflecting a medieval and Renaissance past marked by the influence of local lords. These buildings often served as fortified residences, administrative centres or symbols of power. Beaumont Castle is part of this regional heritage, although its specific history remains partially documented, limiting knowledge of its origins and transformations over the centuries.
