Origin and history

Béon Castle, located in the town of Aste-Beon in New Aquitaine, is a monument whose origins date back to the fourteenth century. The architectural remains and transformations also show significant occupation and development during the first half of the 17th century. This site thus reflects centuries of local history, marking both an initial defensive function and an adaptation to the residential needs of later eras.

In the southwest of France, between the Middle Ages and the modern era, castles like Beon played a central role in the territorial organization. They served as strategic checkpoints for local lords, while sheltering peasant communities whose agricultural and craft activities structured economic life. These buildings also embodied the power and prestige of their owners, while providing protection in the face of frequent regional conflicts at these times.
