Origin and history

The house located in Beaucaire, in the Gard, presents a remarkable architectural complex characterized by high facades flanked by two lightly protruded stair turrets. These elements, combined with low doors and a large vaulted passage surmounted by a stone balcony decorated with ironwork, suggest a construction intended for both residential and commercial use. The vaulted passage, giving access to the old market place, highlights its central role in the local economic life, while details such as sill windows, carved supports and heavy wooden shutters show an aesthetic and functional concern.

At the corner of the streets of the Bijoutiers and Diderot, a beam carved in volute, in strong protruding, adds a distinctive decorative touch. The facades and roofs of this building were protected by a registration order under the Historic Monuments on October 12, 1946, recognizing their heritage value. The precise address, 19 rue des Bijoutiers, and GPS coordinates confirm its anchoring in the historic urban fabric of Beaucaire, although the accuracy of its location is considered poor (note 5/10).

The absence of a precise period in the available sources limits the exact dating of the construction, but the architectural elements (towers, vaulted passage, ironwork) evoke an era between the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. These characteristics reflect the needs of an expanding trading bourgeoisie, for whom the house served as both housing, warehouse and trading space.
