Origin and history

The Castel, located in Dijon in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, was originally built between 1705 and 1710 as a house of fields by Charles Leguz Morin, perhaps on the plans of architect Martin de Noinville. Acquired on lands close to the mill Saint-Étienne, this pavilion outside the walls of the city became an estate enlarged in 1735 by Marc-Antoine Chartraire de Montigny, treasurer of the states of Burgundy, who added two wings and built canals connected to the Ouche.

In 1793, the estate was sold to Philippe Régneau, who installed a brewery there, a new industry in Dijon. The Régneau family, then Robin, kept the property for five generations, until it was sold to the City in 1949. Between 1843 and 1867, the Castel was rented to the Eiffel family: Gustave Eiffel, a future Eiffel Tower engineer, spent his teens there and married in 1862.

In the 20th century, after suffering from German occupation, the Castel was transformed in 1960 into a women's school town and then into a multipurpose high school. Restored between 1996 and 1998 by the Region, it now houses the hotel school of the high school, with its restaurant Le Gustave. The facades and roofs, classified in 1971, bear witness to its architectural heritage of the eighteenth century.

The high school, spread over 16 hectares, offers a variety of training courses, from hotels and restaurants to cinema, BTS and preparatory classes. Its history reflects the economic and educational transformations of Dijon, from its aristocratic origins to its current vocation in technical and vocational education.
