Origin and history

The castelet of Croix-Dauride, located in Toulouse in the Occitanie region, is an emblematic building of the mid-19th century. Built in the 1850s in the heart of a vast park, it illustrates the eclectic style in vogue at that time, blending elements inspired by the Gothic and Renaissance periods. Its facade is distinguished by an abundant terracotta decor, reflecting the architectural and artistic know-how of its time.

The monument is the work of the Virebant family, notably the architect Auguste Virebent, known for his work in the region. The site includes, in addition to the castelet, an entrance porch, an orangery, a temple of Love and a square pavilion, together protected by a registration order in 1993. These remains bear witness to the importance of this place as a bourgeois residence and leisure space in the 19th century.

The castelet of Croix-Dauride is part of a historical context marked by the rise of secondary residences and landscape parks around Toulouse. These spaces reflected the social status of their owners and served as reception and relaxation places for the local elite. The eclectic architecture, like that of the castelet, symbolized a desire for prestige and cultural openness, mixing references to different artistic periods.

Today, the castelet remains an architectural testimony of this period, although its access to the public (visits, rentals, accommodation) is not specified in the available sources. Its inscription in the Historical Monuments in 1993 underscores its heritage value, while inviting to preserve this representative heritage of the nineteenth century Toulouse.
