Origin and history
The Château des Seigneurs de Réchicourt is a historic monument located in the commune of Bourdonnay, Moselle (Great East region). The remains of this castle, accompanied by a neoclassical funeral chapel, belong to the Falconet and Jankovitz families. These elements, located at Marimont, were included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 24 December 1991.
The location of the site, although documented in the Merimée database under Insee code 57099, remains approximate, with an accuracy deemed mediocre (note 5/10). The castle, now partially extinct, bears witness to an architectural and funerary heritage linked to local history. No further information is available on its exact origin, founders or evolution over the centuries.
The neoclassical chapel associated with the remains of the castle reflects the funeral practices of the aristocratic or bourgeois families of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This type of monument, often linked to seigneuries or land properties, played a central role in the social and territorial organization of Lorraine, a region marked by a strong nobiliary presence before the French Revolution.
