Origin and history

The Château de l'Étang is a monument located in the commune of La Chaussade, in the department of Creuse, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. This castle is distinguished by its architecture, with a housing body oriented east-south-east/west-north-west, accompanied by three towers: one to the east and two to the west. Several outbuildings are attached to the building, highlighting its past importance as a residential and functional structure.

At present, the Castle of the Etang has been transformed into several dwellings, marking a change in its initial use. Although its detailed history is not explicitly documented in the available sources, its presence in the lists of the castles of Creuse and Nouvelle-Aquitaine bears witness to its anchoring in the local heritage. Its architecture and location make it a representative example of the historic buildings of this rural region, where castles often played a central role in the social and economic organization of the surrounding territories.
