Origin and history

The Château de Coeuilly, located in Champigny-sur-Marne in Île-de-France, was built in the seventeenth century with its chapel Saint-Claude. These buildings reflected the residential architecture of the era, typical of seigneurial or bourgeois mansions surrounded by vast estates. The site was lined with ditches and a fence wall, as evidenced by the Delagrive map, with a north turret later used in the farm gate.

In the mid-18th century, the Hocquart family added an eastern wing to the castle and built the farm gate using existing elements. However, a southern part of the original 17th century building was demolished after 1810, as confirmed by the cadastre of the time. The park, on the other hand, was batched from 1912: the ditches were filled, the entrance gate removed, and the castle divided into lots for sale.

The chapel Saint-Claude, originally private, became parish church in 1952, marking a transformation of its religious use. Today, only the facades and roofs of the remaining main building have been protected since a 1977 order, reflecting the partial heritage importance of the site. The castle thus illustrates the architectural and social changes over several centuries, from its aristocratic origin to its fragmentation in the 20th century.
