Facades and roofs: inscription by decree of 5 April 1948
Origin and history
The Duisans Castle is a historic monument located in the commune of Duisans, in the department of Pas-de-Calais (Hauts-de-France). Built in the first half of the 18th century, it represents an architectural example of this period, marked by classical influences and a desire for symmetry and elegance. Its facades and roofs were included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by a decree of 5 April 1948, thus highlighting their heritage value and preservation for future generations.
The location of the castle, at 8002 Rue du Château in Duisans, is estimated with an accuracy considered "a priori satisfactory" (note of 6/10). This type of monument, typical of the aristocratic or bourgeois residences of the eighteenth century, often reflects the way of life and social status of its owners. At that time, in the countryside of northern France, castles served not only as places of residence, but also as administrative or agricultural centres, playing a key role in the local organisation.
Their architecture, often inspired by Parisian models, also reflected the cultural exchanges and social aspirations of the provincial elite.
