Origin and history
The Château de Foëcy, located in the municipality of the same name in the region Centre-Val de Loire, is a monument whose origins date back to the 15th century. From this medieval period, only the entrance building, probably built in the late 15th or early 16th century, as well as an old defence tower, remains. These elements, including the quadrangular plan entrance chestnut, reflect the typical defensive architecture of the era, although partially modified by subsequent additions.
In the 18th century, after 1719, the present castle was completely rebuilt in a classical style, marking a break with the medieval past. The house body, rectangular in shape, has a central body slightly protruding, flanked by four square pavilions at the corners. This castle became the residence of the owners of Foëcy porcelain factory, a key element of its industrial and social history. The porch of the old entrance work, now walled, even served as a place of Protestant worship around 1830, illustrating the religious and cultural evolutions of the region.
The castle park, built between 1820 and 1830, completes this architectural ensemble. Inside, the castle preserves remarkable elements such as the 18th century panelling in the large living room, protected since 1989. The ensemble, partially classified as a Historical Monument, thus bears witness to centuries of history, mixing medieval heritage, classical transformation and local industrial memory.
