Origin and history
The Château de Laborie, located in the Madiranais wine area, is marked by the legacy of Charles Laborie, commander of the Hussards of Angoulême. In 1835 he inherited the family property and established a large winery there, symbolizing the economic development of local wines in the 19th century. The two cellars, the large and the small, bear witness to this lavish period, with neat architectures such as the curvilinear skylights or the remarkable frame of 16 farms.
The large cellar, about 50 metres long, is distinguished by its south facade decorated with rounded windows and a restored structure in the 1990s. The small cellar preserves press elements, recalling traditional methods of vinification. These buildings, protected since 1992 for their facades and roofs, illustrate the alliance between industrial and wine heritage, characteristic of the Madiranais.
Ranked a Historic Monument, the site also reflects the evolution of materials, such as the replacement of slate with a patinated sheet. Its inscription in 1992 covers the cellars, a square tower and a pavilion, highlighting their architectural and historical value in the landscape of the Hautes-Pyrénées.
