Origin and history

Lemps Castle is a monument located in the municipality of Lemps, in Ardèche. This castle, although little documented in the available sources, is part of the architectural heritage of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its existence is attested by its mention in the lists of the castles of the department, but its precise history, its origins and its transformations remain so far unknown.

The castles of this region, often built between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, played a central role in the social and defensive organization of the territories. They served as seigneurial residences, strategic checkpoints or symbols of local power. In Lemps, as in other ardèche communes, these buildings reflected the political and economic dynamics of their time, while participating in the structuring of the rural and urban landscape.
