Origin and history

Château du Plaix is a building located in the commune of Meaulne-Vitray, in the department of Allier, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It consists of a central house body, a common wing, an entrance gate, and a garden including two chapels and a washhouse. Its architecture reflects a reconstruction after a fire, as evidenced by the elements dated 1660.

The original castle was destroyed by fire in 1614, then rebuilt under the property of the Luylier family, who owned other properties in the area. In 1985, certain parts of the castle (gateway, chapel, cistern, basin and washhouse) were listed as historical monuments by ministerial decree.

Today, the chateau du Plaix remains an example of bourbonese rural architecture, marked by its history and integration into a landscaped complex including religious and utilitarian elements such as washing and chapels.
