The facades and roofs (Box C 474): inscription by decree of 11 July 2008

Origin and history

Puisieux-et-Clanlieu Castle is a typical mansion in the Thiérache, built in the 18th and 19th centuries. Located in the department of Aisne, it is distinguished by its brick facades and slate roofs, as well as its prominent pavilions that frame the main structure. Although the interior underwent modifications in the 19th century, facades and roofs retained their original authenticity, reflecting the local architectural style of the period.

The monument was listed as a historic monument in 2008, recognizing its heritage value. This protection applies specifically to facades and roofs, as specified in the registration order. The castle is part of the landscape of the rural manor houses of the region, often linked to the agricultural and seigneurial history of the Thiérache, an area marked by a typical brick and stone architecture.

The location of the castle, at the address 3 Rue de l'Église in Puisieux-et-Clanlieu, makes it a central element of the local heritage. Its inclusion in the Merimée base and its mention in the lists of historical monuments of the Aisne underline its importance for the regional heritage. Although little information is available on its past uses, its architecture and state of conservation make it a witness to the architectural and social evolutions of the region between the 18th and 19th centuries.
