Origin and history
The Château de Saint-Léonard, located in the Gers in Occitanie, is an 18th century historical monument, rebuilt on an earlier medieval building. Its typical architecture of the period is organized around a square courtyard, with three main wings and a covered porch on the terrace. The north wing houses an honour staircase decorated with a wrought iron ramp of the late eighteenth century, while the east and west wings distribute living rooms, decorated with characteristic woodwork and gypsum. The vaulted cellars and a 16th century door bear witness to the remains of the earlier states.
The seigneury of Saint-Léonard belonged to the family of Sérillac from the 13th to the 18th century, during which time the castle was deeply remodelled in its second half. The outbuildings included a barn, communes and a castral chapel, now partially disappeared. The site, registered with the Historic Monuments in 1996, retains protected elements such as the barn and chapel, reflecting its heritage importance.
The service rooms, located in vaulted rooms in the basement, illustrate the domestic organization of the period. The kitchen, rooms and reception areas were distinctly distributed, according to the aristocratic practices of the eighteenth century. The approximate location of the castle, noted as "passable" in the databases, corresponds to the address 5061 Le Vignares, in the commune of Saint-Léonard (code Insee 32385).
