Origin and history

The Castle of Camboulan is a rectangular building whose construction spans centuries, from the 16th to the 19th. It is distinguished by an arased circular tower housing a staircase on its southern facade, as well as a crown of mâchicoulis supporting a round road. This castle, mentioned from the thirteenth century, underwent major changes, including the division of its structure into two parts during the French Revolution. Its bays were completely redesigned in the 19th century, and part of the building was converted to school from 1900.

Ranked among the historical monuments since 1995, the Castle of Camboulan illustrates the architectural and functional evolution of the castles in Rouergue. Its inscription specifically concerns facades and roofs, reflecting its heritage importance. Although its exact history and initial owners remain partially documented, its adaptation to local needs (school, housing) reflects its anchoring in the community life of Ambeyrac and Aveyron.
