Origin and history

Château de la Chaise is a monument located in the commune of Pazy, in the department of Nièvre (58), in the region Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Although its exact construction period is not specified in the available sources, it is identified as a Historic Monument, with specific protection granted to its pigeon house. The latter was registered by ministerial decree on 15 June 1976, stressing its heritage importance in the local architectural framework.

Pigeons, often associated with seigneurial estates or farms, played an economic and symbolic role in the French countryside. In Nièvre, a region marked by a strong rural tradition, these buildings reflected the social status of the owners and were used to rear pigeons, a food resource and valuable fertilizer.
