Origin and history

The Château de Trébons is a large classical residence built in the second half of the 18th century, around 1767, according to plans of the architect Guillaume-Martin Couture (or Joseph-Abel Couture according to the sources). Located in Grainville-Ymauville, Seine-Maritime, it was built for the Count of Trébons on an earlier structure of manorial enclosures, of which still remain elements such as portions of enclosures, turrets and cellars. The park, designed by the same architect, completes this coherent architectural ensemble, entirely made of cut stone.

The lateral wings, added after the French Revolution by the Marquis de Trébons, were built in a stone too gelive and were demolished around 1930 by Mr Cornet d'Hunval, then owner. The estate underwent several changes of hands: acquired in 1902 by the Suchetet-Allard family, he passed around 1930 to M. Cornet d'Hunval, then in 1987 to Mme Jacques Reveilhac and his children. These changes reflect the changing uses and needs of successive owners.

The castle and its estate, including the building, fences, gardens, avenues and associated parcels, were listed as historical monuments by order of 19 December 2008. This protection recognizes the heritage value of the ensemble, which retains most of its interior design and original distribution. The estate now extends within limits set between 1781 and 1826, during which time it was expanded.

Although private property not open to the public, the castle of Trébons bears witness to the classic Norman architecture of the eighteenth century. Its history, marked by structural changes and changes of owners, illustrates the adaptations of an aristocratic home throughout the centuries, while preserving its original character.
