Origin and history
Briançon Castle, also known as Briançon Manor, is located in the municipality of Criel-sur-Mer, Seine-Maritime. Built mainly in the 16th century, it is distinguished by its architecture combining flint, stone and brick. This monument was acquired by the Duchess of Montpensier for 14,000 pounds, during a transaction with Marc Antoine de Rollindes, although the details of this acquisition remain little documented.
Over the centuries, the castle has experienced various uses, including as a hospital until 1957. This health function reflects its adaptation to local needs over an extended period of time. Since April 14, 1930, the castle has been listed as historic monuments, recognizing its heritage and architectural value.
Today, the castle of Briançon belongs to the commune of Criel-sur-Mer. Its inscription in the Mérimée base and its precise location at 9030 B Place du Général de Gaulle make it an identifiable and accessible site. Although information about its openness to the public or current uses is limited, its history and structure make it a significant part of Norman heritage.
