Origin and history

Bussy Castle, located in the town of Bussy (Cher), is a strong house whose architectural features place its construction in the last quarter of the 15th century, although elements can go back to the 14th century. This monument preserved its original interior organization, despite restoration work carried out around 1950. The large house, close to a large tower, could incorporate older defensive remains, while the commons and agricultural buildings, modernized in the 19th century, illustrate the agricultural renewal under the Restoration in this region.

The site has been protected under the Historic Monuments since 2014, with remarkable elements such as the castral muffler, its bassyard, a fishery, fence walls, an entrance gate, and a dungeon. These vestiges reflect the evolution of the castle from a defensive function to a residential and agricultural role. The courtyards, wells and facades of the communes, organized rationally around a large courtyard, reflect this historical duality.

The location of the castle, at 12 Route de Dun-sur-Auron (18130 Bussy), is attested by the Mérimée and Monumentum bases. Its registration in 2014 also covers the soils of the surrounding plots, highlighting the heritage importance of the site. Although the practical information (visits, accommodation) is not specified in the sources, its status as a Historical Monument makes it a key witness to medieval and post-medieval architecture in the Centre-Val de Loire.
