Origin and history

The Château de Bon-Hôtel, located in Ligny-le-Ribault in the Loiret, was built between 1875 and 1882 by the Parisian architects Clément and Louis Parent. He was commissioned by Georges Dupré de Saint Maur, General Councillor and Mayor of the commune, and acted as the architectural development of the Sologne after his déenclavement under Napoleon III. Its neo-Renaissance style is designed for social receptions and hunting, inspired by the castles of the Loire Valley.

Acquired in 1923 by Swiss industrialist Henry Burrus, passionate horse riding, the castle illustrates the social role of the aristocratic residences of the time. It was listed in the inventory of historical monuments on 3 September 1991 for its facades, roofs, vestibule, central hall and main staircase. Its history also reflects the influence of local noble families, such as the Poniatowski, before its passage to foreign owners.

The castle is part of a typical landscape of the Sologne, near the Creux pond, accessible by the St. Lawrence Road. Its eclectic architecture and reception spaces underline its vocation as a prestigious place. Today, there remains a testimony of the golden age of hunting castles in the Centre-Val de Loire, mixing historical heritage and natural heritage.
