Origin and history

The Château d'Argeville is a 17th-century building located in the municipality of Vernou-la-Celle-sur-Seine, Seine-et-Marne. This castle is one of three castles present in the communal territory, alongside those of Graville and Beaurepaire. It was built for Monsieur Héron de Villefosse, a local figure whose name remains associated with this property.

The property includes a park and ornamental meadow, as well as protected architectural elements such as the commons, fence, a small gate to the farm and the entrance gate. These elements were listed as historical monuments on 11 July 1986. The castle, partially preserved, and its park are today a private property that does not visit.

Vernou-la-Celle-sur-Seine, where the castle stands, also has a varied historical heritage, including seven mills and the ruins of a leprosy founded in 1586 to welcome the lepers back from the crusades. This historical context underscores the importance of this commune in the region, marked by buildings and infrastructures dating back to several periods.

Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm that Argeville Castle is a representative example of 17th-century seigneurial architecture in Île-de-France. Its listing in historic monuments reflects its heritage value, although its access remains restricted due to its private property status.
