Origin and history

The castle of Audisque is a building of the 2nd quarter of the 18th century, built in 1747 as indicated by the date on its structure. It is located in the commune of Saint-Étienne-au-Mont, in the department of Pas-de-Calais, in the region of Hauts-de-France. This castle, characteristic of its time, was commissioned by François de La Fitte, whose name remains associated with its foundation.

The monument was first protected by historic monuments on 29 December 1978, covering its facades, roofs, and remarkable interior elements such as the wrought iron staircase or the dining room with its decor. In 2016, an extension of this protection included the garden with its structures (walls, stairs, balustrades, water room), as well as access hall and gates, recognizing the importance of its landscape.

Available sources, including the Mérimée and Monumentum bases, confirm its precise address at 2 rue Pasteur in Saint-Étienne-au-Mont, as well as its inscription in the regional architectural heritage. The castle illustrates the evolution of aristocratic residences in the Enlightenment century, mixing representative function and refined aesthetics. Its state of conservation and its successive protections testify to its historical and cultural value.
