Origin and history

The Château d'Ollans, located in the Doubs department in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, consists of an 18th-century house body in a U-shaped plan with round towers at the corners, and a garden decorated with statues of Apollo and Diane (1740) by Jean-Baptiste Bouchardon. This domain was designed for Guillaume de Belot, lord of Ollans, and reflects the evolution of architectural tastes between the Enlightenment and the late 19th century.

At the end of the 19th century, the castle was enriched with outbuildings: a guardian's house (with a 15th century tower), a greenhouse, sheds, a dovecote, an orangery, a apiary, and a mosaic cave. These additions are part of a landscape park where the poet Sully Prudhomme, friend of the owner Charles Derosne, stayed regularly. He dedicated a quatrain there in 1887, immortalizing his attachment to the place.

Inside the castle preserves notable decorative elements, such as a wrought iron staircase with wall paintings, and a chapel with an altar and a altarpiece. The estate, classified Historical Monument since 1988 (housework and garden) and in total in 2022, illustrates the aristocratic and artistic heritage of Franche-Comté. Today, private property, it combines local history and preserved architectural heritage.
