Origin and history

The Château d'Orrouy, located in the department of Oise, belongs to the 18th century to the Foucault family, native of Gâtinais. He then went on to Joseph-Abraham Deshayes de Cambronne, director of the insinuations of Louis-Philippe d'Orléans, then to his son Arnouph Deshayes de Cambronne, adjutant of the National Guard of the Château de Compiègne and aide de camp de Charles X. By covenant, it is passed on to the Desfriches Doria family, including Count Armand Doria, member of the Institut de France, and his grandson Arnauld Doria, art historian.

In the 20th century, the castle became the command post of the Champlieu tank camp, led by Jean Estienne, pioneer of tanks. His son, Georges Estienne, a pilot, drew a major motor vehicle route linking North Africa and Central Africa. The castle is also linked to the writer Joseph Kessel, who mentions Georges Estienne in his novel Les Nuits de Siberia.

The facades, roofs, central stairway and wall of the castle have been listed as historical monuments since 1989. In 2024, extensive protection includes the entire castle as well as its leisure garden, already listed in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage.
