Origin and history

Yversay Castle, located in the town of Yversay in New Aquitaine (formerly Poitou-Charentes), is a building built during the second half of the eighteenth century. This monument, classified among the Historical Monuments, illustrates the aristocratic residential architecture of this period, marked by a concern for elegance and symmetry. Its listing in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 7 March 1988 attests to its heritage value, particularly for its architectural elements and its park.

The castle is located precisely at 1 Chemin du Château, 86170 Yversay, according to GPS coordinates and the Merimée base. The accuracy of its location is considered satisfactory (level 7/10), and a photo licensed under Creative Commons, credited to Romain le Malin, documents its appearance. The site is administratively attached to the municipality of Yversay (code Insee 86300), in the Department of Vienna, and depends on the district of Poitiers.

Since 2025, the castle offers paid tours from 7 July to 15 August, allowing free access to the park, historic cuisine, and providing information about its history. Visitors can also picnic in the park, highlighting a desire for tourist and educational development of the place. No additional information is available on any owners, architects or major events related to the castle in the sources consulted.

The data comes mainly from the Monumentum platform and the Merimée database, with a last update recorded on 12 July 2025. The castle (cadastrated under Parcel B 1140) remains a representative example of the rural built heritage of New Aquitaine, although its detailed history and architectural specificities are not specified in current sources.
