Origin and history

Bagatelle Castle, located in Saint-Martin-des-Champs in Finistère, has its origins in the 18th century. Originally, it was probably a hunting event for the Princes of Leo. The mansion, Louis XV style, was first named "Carman mansion" before becoming "Bagatelle". His first written mention dates from 1754, when he belonged to Pierre de Jollivet, lord of Isles. The building is distinguished by an octagonal central body and two rectangular pavilions, typical of the architecture of the period.

The castle has marked architectural features: Louis XV interior windows and woodwork, as well as a French garden in front of its western façade, inspired by plans by André Le Nôtre. In 1772, a chapel dedicated to Saint Anne was erected in granite on Callot Island. The estate changed hands several times, notably between Michel Behic, then Edmond Puyo, Mayor of Morlaix and President of the Local Archaeological Society, and finally his son Constant Puyo, renowned photographer.

Bagatelle Castle was listed as a historic monument on September 20, 1946, recognizing its heritage value. Protected features include facades, roofs, entrance grill, French garden and park. This monument illustrates the architectural and landscape heritage of Breton from the 18th century, mixing local history and aristocratic influence.
