Origin and history

The Château de Bouillé-Théval, located in Montguillon in the department of Maine-et-Loire, rests on medieval foundations probably dated between the 13th and 14th centuries. Its prominent side gables and the cover of one of the houses could go back to that time. In the 15th century, under the property of the family of Quatrebarbes, the castle underwent major developments: construction of a stair tower and foundation of a chapel in 1444. These developments gradually transformed the fortress into a residence more adapted to the needs of the period.

In the 16th century, the castle passed into the hands of the family of Thévalle, who made notable changes, particularly at the level of the bays. Additional modifications took place in the 18th century, while in the 20th century, with the exception of the stairway tower, the buildings were restored and restored. These successive transformations reflect the evolution of architectural uses and tastes throughout the centuries. The castle was listed as a historical monument in 1973, recognizing its heritage value.

The protected elements include the facades and roofs of the house body, the tower staircase, as well as two 17th century chimneys. These architectural details bear witness to the various phases of construction and beautification of the monument. Although the sources mention an approximate location between Montguillon and Segré-en-Anjou Bleu, the castle remains anchored in local history, illustrating the architectural heritage of the 16th and 17th centuries.
