Origin and history

The castle of Bouquéron, mentioned as early as 1100 in the cartular of Saint-Hugues, was originally a defensive fortress perched on a rocky piton in Corenc, Isère. From this medieval era, there are few remains, since the building was thoroughly renovated in the 15th century by Claude Coct, treasurer and receiver general of the Dauphiné, who made it a larger residence and adapted to its status.

In the 17th century, the castle underwent a major modernization: removal of shingles to enlarge windows, renovation of woodwork and interior chimneys, reflecting the evolution of aristocratic tastes. The 18th century made minor changes, but the Revolution marked a turning point with its sale as a national property, confiscated from the Chaillol families of Bouquéron and the Costa. In 1852, it was even transformed into a hydrotherapic centre, an unexpected destination for an ancient fortress.

Today, the Château de Bouquéron is a private property acquired in 1908 by the family of Dr Philippe Détrie, whose descendants still own it. Although partially listed as historical monuments since 1988 (façades, roofs, and three inner rooms), it is not accessible to the public. Its name comes from the hamlet of Bouqueron, a former commune attached to Meylan in 1794 before being incorporated into Corenc. The estate, surrounded by a park, offers stunning views of the Gresivaudan valley.
