Origin and history

Castelmore Castle, located in the commune of Lupiac (Gers, Occitanie region), is first known as the birthplace of Charles de Batz de Castelmore, known as d'Artagnan, between 1611 and 1615. This Musketeer, immortalized by Alexandre Dumas, has become a symbol of Gascony and Lupiac. His military history ended in 1673 at the siege of Maastricht, where he died.

The castle, in medieval style with a narrow facade flanked by two square towers and two round towers, retains a renovated interior in the 18th century. It belonged to the family of former Gers Senator Mayor Yves Rispat until 2015, before being put on sale for 2.5 million euros in 2021. In 2024, it was acquired by Yves Claude, CEO of Auchan Retail, for 2 million euros, with a project of restoration and opening to the public.

Ranked a natural site in 1933 and partially listed as historical monuments in 1993, Castelmore Castle includes in its protection facades, roofs, stairways, entrance hall and landing of the first floor. Its estate covers 155 hectares, including park, forests and agricultural land, reflecting its historic and historic importance.
