Origin and history

Cathalo Castle, also known as Cathala Castle, is a large bourgeois residence located in Girossens, Tarn department, Occitanie region. Although its history remains poorly documented, its architectural style suggests construction in the late 19th century, probably under the Second Empire. The facade and decorative details, such as the false mâchicoulis and pilasters, reflect this period of bourgeois prosperity and stylistic eclecticism.

The building consists of a five-span central house body, framed by two four-storey square towers, one of which is semi-entered. These towers are surmounted by crenellated terraces, while an outdoor staircase leads to a baluster terrace serving as a porch. The absence of precise sources makes it impossible to date its construction with certainty, but its appearance evokes the aristocratic or bourgeois residences of the era, marked by a taste for medieval references revisited.

The building is part of the landscape of the Tarn castles, often linked to local history or influential families. However, unlike other monuments in the region, Cathalo Castle does not have archives or detailed historical accounts. Its architecture, combining classical elegance and neo-medieval elements, nevertheless bears witness to the trends of its time, where private homes sometimes imitated strong castles to display social prestige.
