Origin and history
Caupenne Castle is a historic monument located in the commune of Caupenne in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Built between the 17th and 18th centuries, it bears witness to the architectural and social evolution of this period, marked by the affirmation of seigneurial and bourgeois residences. Although the internal sources do not specify its exact use, its construction period suggests a role as a residence or local authority.
During the 17th and 18th centuries, the region, then integrated into French territory, experienced a period of relative stability after the religious unrest of the religious wars of Religion. The castles of this time often reflect the influence of classical styles, with arrangements aimed at combining comfort and social representation. In this context, Caupenne Castle is probably part of a dynamic of modernization of noble residences, adapted to new aristocratic standards of living.
