Castle (rests): inscription by order of 21 October 1926

Origin and history

Chabrillan Castle is a historic monument located in the municipality of the same name, in the department of Drôme (26), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is now partially preserved, and its remains were inscribed under the Historical Monuments by order of 21 October 1926. Little precise information remains about its history, but its inscription bears witness to its local heritage importance.

The location of the castle, at approximately 0 Rue des Félibres, suggests an implantation in the historic heart of Chabrillan. This type of monument, typical of small rural communes, often played a defensive or residential role for local lords. In Drôme, as in other regions, medieval or post-medieval castles were centres of economic and social power, around which the lives of the inhabitants were organized.
