Origin and history
Charras Castle, classified as a Historic Monument, consists of a body of central houses formerly surrounded by pavilions, located at the bottom of a courtyard. In the west, a 17th century wing, with a broken roof, borders the south side, while a small building occupies the north. A double fence precedes access to the house, stressing its seignorial character. The estate also includes a farm, orangery, and a 15th century tower, older vestige.
The castle park is distinguished by three terraces, bounded by pillars or balustrades, and served by three separate stairs. A rock and a cement basin, as well as two lanes of linden still visible, complete this landscaped ensemble. Fired around 1850, the estate was later restored, preserving its architectural elements and gardens, protected by decree of 23 October 1992 for their gates, walls, balustrades and plots.
Today owned by a private company, the castle of Charras retains traces of its evolution, mixing medieval heritage (around the 15th century) and transformations of the 17th and 18th centuries. Its spatial organization, with court of honor and outbuildings, reflects an aristocratic residence adapted to the rural and aesthetic uses of modern times.
